Your Ultimate Companion for Middle-earth

LOTRO Guides is a free fansite built to help Lord of the Rings Online players at every stage of the game. Whether you're rolling your first character or optimizing endgame gear, this guide walks you through every tool and database the site has to offer.

Searchable Databases

The heart of the site is a collection of databases pulled from in-game data. Every database supports instant search, column sorting, and multi-filter combinations so you can find exactly what you need.

Items Database — 38,000+ Items

The Items Database contains every item in LOTRO — equipment, consumables, quest rewards, and more.

  • Filter by type (Equipment, Consumables, Quest Rewards), subtype (Food, Battle Scroll, Token, etc.), and quality (Legendary, Incomparable, Rare)
  • Click any item to open a detail panel showing full stats, level requirements, and slot
  • Set links — equipment that belongs to a gear set links directly to the Sets Database
  • Items load progressively so the page stays responsive even with tens of thousands of rows

Instances Database — 130+ Raids & Dungeons

The Instances Database covers every group instance in the game. The listing page shows group size, tier count, mob count, and whether loot data is available.

Click into any instance to see a dedicated detail page with:

  • Boss-by-boss loot tables — items listed by tier with drop rarity (Guaranteed, Uncommon, Rare)
  • Full mob listing — every enemy in the instance with expandable ability breakdowns (damage type, effect radius, mitigation type)
  • Instance metadata — group size, scaling info, number of tiers
  • Related guides — linked strategy guides when available

This is especially useful for raid leaders planning loot rules and groups checking what gear drops where.

Deeds Database

The Deeds Database lets you look up any deed by type — Slayer, Exploration, Lore, Reputation, Class, or Event.

  • Filter by reward type — LOTRO Points, Titles, Virtues, Reputation
  • Class-specific deeds — filter by any of the 13 classes (including Mariner)
  • Deed objectives — see kill counts, location landmarks, and requirements at a glance
  • Map overlay — deeds with location-based objectives appear on the interactive map

Quests Database

The Quests Database contains thousands of quests with level range, category, quest giver, objectives, and rewards.

  • Level range filter — set a min and max level to narrow results to your current progression
  • Group size filter — Solo, Small Fellowship, Fellowship, Raid
  • Category filter — find quests in a specific region
  • Map integration — quest objectives can be plotted on the interactive map for spatial orientation

Sets Database

The Sets Database lists every gear set in the game. Each entry shows:

  • All pieces in the set with icons
  • Set bonuses by tier — e.g., "3-piece: +125 Might, +50 Tactical Mastery"
  • Item level and max level requirements
  • Filter by piece count — find 2-piece through 8+ piece sets

Mobs Database

The Mobs Database catalogs thousands of enemies with genus (Dragon-kind, Orc-kind, Troll-kind, etc.) and species (Goblin, Uruk, Warg, etc.).

  • Filter by genus and species
  • Mobs with known spawn locations are plotted on the interactive map

Virtues Database

The Virtues Database shows every virtue with stats per tier, max rank, and the mitigation and mastery bonuses each rank provides. Useful when planning virtue slotting for your build.

Interactive Map of Middle-earth

The Interactive Map is a full Leaflet.js-powered map with thousands of points of interest.

  • Pan and zoom across all of Middle-earth with multi-layer regional maps
  • POI markers — stables, vendors, landmarks, quest objectives, mob spawn locations, and deed objectives
  • Marker clustering — nearby POIs group together at lower zoom levels to keep the map clean
  • Quest visualization — plot quest objective waypoints directly on the map
  • Deed objectives — see exactly where to go for exploration and landmark deeds
  • Shareable — copy a link to your current map view to share with kinship members
  • Embeddable — external sites can embed the map using the ?embed=1 URL parameter

The map is especially helpful when you're stuck on "find this landmark" deeds or trying to locate a quest objective in an unfamiliar region.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Site

  1. Bookmark the map — when questing in a new region, keep the interactive map open in a second tab to track objectives spatially
  2. Use the instance loot tables before raids — check what drops from each boss so you know which tier to run and what to roll on
  3. Cross-reference sets and items — find a set bonus you want in the Sets Database, then look up individual pieces in the Items Database to see where they drop
  4. Filter deeds by reward — if you're farming LOTRO Points, filter the Deeds Database by LP reward to find the most efficient grind
  5. Check the Raid Preparation Guide — before any endgame content, use the stat target tables and consumable checklists to make sure your character is ready
  6. Share map views — use the share button on the map to send a kinship member the exact location of a hard-to-find quest objective

Every guide and instance page has a comments section where you can share tips, ask questions, or report outdated information. You can also support the site via the Buy Me a Coffee button on the homepage.
