Raid Overview

The Tower of Orthanc raid is a fight to reclaim the 6 rings that Saruman has made for himself and his minions. As you enter the Tower proper you will stand near a horse in the middle of the courtyard. You must defeat the first four instances to gain access to the final Towertop fight. In that vein, there are 5 divisions of the raid:

  1. Ring of Fire and Frost - Saurman's Library East of the horse.
  2. Ring of Acid - Experimental Pit South of the horse.
  3. Ring of Lightning - Steamworks of Orthanc North of the horse.
  4. ARing of Shadow - Enter the Orthanc Throne-room West of the horse.
  5. Saruman's Ring - Take the stairs inside the Throne-room to the Top of Isengard Tower.

Each ring has different trash pulls and mechanics for the final boss in each ring.

Strategies for Fire and Ice Ring

Ring of Fire and Frost - Trash Pulls

Trash Pull Order:

In the Ring of Fire and Frost, you will enter the door directly behind where you spawn into the Tower of Orthanc instance. Once inside, you will encounter a short hallway that ends in stairs leading directly to the first trash pull. In the first trash pull, the focus should be on the White Hand Ruffians. Once the ruffians have been defeated, your target assists should focus on one Twisted Brute aka troll, and the other. The next trash pull will have a new enemy type, Twisted Warrior. However, the focus remains on, White Hand Ruffian then Twisted Warrior and there are no Twisted Brutes or trolls in the second trash pull. The third trash pull will now contain all three enemy types: White Hand Ruffians, Twisted Brute, and Twisted Warrior. In this third pull, you should focus on the White Hand Ruffians like the previous two trash pulls, then focus on the Twisted Brutes or trolls, and then finally kill the remaining Twisted Warriors. After the third trash pull, you will be ready to face the two giants Crisiant and Usgarren.

Ring of Fire and Frost - Boss Fight

Challenge Mode Mechanic: In the Ring of Fire and Frost boss fight you will want to group up and get ready for a major DPS race. The challenge mode for this fight requires you to kill both Crisiant and Usgarren while the green rage bars have no ticks. These ticks will occur every 30 seconds or if a raid member dies. However, this isn't easy as both giants will attack simultaneously after Saruman finishes his introductory speech.

Phase 1: Your first order of business is to kill Crisiant while his green bar is at zero or he has no rage. Then rinse and repeat for Usgarren. To do this you must have 2 tanks one will tank Crisiant on the right side of the room from where you enter while the off-tank holds aggro on Usgarren on the left side of the room from where you enter. When the fight first begins you must have all but two raid members stand in front of Crisiant while the other two stand in front of Usgarren. The reason for this is that after a few moments into the fight, both giants will clap and spawn their respective Grims. In the case of Crisiant he will spawn Frost Grims and in the case of Usgarren he will spawn Fire Grims. If done correctly you should have 10 frost Grims and 2 Fire Grims. Immediately after this clap all attention must be given to killing Crisiant as swiftly as possible. That means you have up to 30 seconds to do as much DPS on Crisiant before you need to kill one of your two Fire Grims to take a single tick off of Crisiant resetting his rage back to 0. Then you will have another 30 seconds to do even more DPS before you must again kill another fire grim to reset his rage back to 0. If he ticks up again after the second and last fire grim is killed, then the challenge has failed as there is now no way to lower his rage after the second fire grim is killed. Note that the grims will become immune to damage after so much damage is done to them requiring a crowd control or CC skill to be used on them before you can continue to damage them further.

Phase 2: If you have succeeded in killing Crisiant without any rage present on his green bar, then your next order of business is to kill Frost Grims until Usgarren bar is back to 0 rage. Once this is done then you can focus on Usgarren killing a Frost Grim as needed if his rage bar ticks up at all while trying to kill him.

General Note: On a last note, be careful not to use too many bleeds on both Crisiant and Usgarren as it is easily possible to accidentally kill one or the other right after the rage bar ticks up as they are nearing defeat.
